PLAYING WITH OTHERS CREATES A FOUNDATION FOR RAPID IMPROVEMENT
What is Team Piano?
Team Lessons are structured as a rehearsals for beginner pianists. There are five pianos and each students sits at their own piano. We play music specially arranged for five pianos. Imagine a piano orchestra.
Music is drawn from the classical piano repertoire, famous orchestral pieces and even traditional songs done in a jazz style. Teams rehearse two pieces each semester and we do group sight-reading as time allows. Come for a free observation. It's an experience you'll never forget
Institute students love Team Piano. There's camaraderie, it's fun and they are learning difficult skills, easily. These are skills you can't learn playing alone. Skills like leading other musicians, blending volume and finding your place when you are lost. Five pianos create a complex sound environment that challenges a student's listening skill.

Team Piano - Program Structure
Team Piano rehearsals are once a week. The team works together to learn ensemble skills while polishing two pieces each semester. The culminating end-of-semester performance is a rich experience that deepens and accelerates the learning of piano skills. Team Piano is fun and allows students to enjoy the piano as a social experience.
We believe the value is so great that we put beginners on teams as soon as they are ready. Even if they are not yet reading music. Usually it's about 2 to 4 months from the day a student has their first lesson till they are ready to join a team.
The sooner a student joins a team, the sooner these team skills will be learned and transferred to a student's solo practice. We do make sure that everyone on a team has similar skills. Matching students by skill level fosters compatibility so team members are neither frustrated or bored. This is best accomplished at the beginning of a semester but open seats can become available at any time.

We have been so impressed with the rate of student progress that we make our Team Piano program open to other teachers and students. If you have friends or know other pianists, consider starting a team of your own. This kind of playing experience is very valuable and most pianists have not experienced it.
